The most important part of establishing your marriage is your exchange of vows which happens within your ceremony format. Any legal registration is there to recognise your marriage.
I strongly recommend that you register your marriage in the country where you will live after your marriage. However, if you choose to register it here in Thailand, you will end up with a paper like this (on the left) in Thai after a somewhat tedious process as follows as advised by my Bangkok agent :
Bangkok Process
The normal process is as follows- (UK, Aust, Canadian, USA, NZ Embassy) and only the passport is required. (Also the Divorce certificates if you have been previously married)
For other Embassy's we need to check on the exact requirements and sometimes they take a few days to process the affidavit so it may take a little longer in Bangkok. Some of the European Embassy require that you contact them directly
Day 1: Arrival in Bangkok
Day 2: Completion of affirmations at Embassy (AM)- You are free to depart Bangkok in the afternoon on this day
Day 3: Translations and authorisations at Thai Foreign Ministry
Day 4: Collection of documents at Thai Foreign Ministry-FAX and EMS post to Resort
Day 5: Original documents arrive at your resort or organiser. They need 2-3 working days to organise the Amphur official and charge an additional fee to organise this service.
Phuket Services
Co-ordination of Bangkok services and amphur services in Phuket if required.
Wedding Ceremony at Resort: Wedding Ceremony and official registration of marriage at Resort which includes a certificate for signing by you and 2 witnesses.
The cost of these services is usually included in the fees charges by your wedding organiser.
If you want translations from Thai after your ceremony, we will request that your wedding organiser EMS post all marriage paperwork back to us in Bangkok so that we can complete final translations back into English and have everything authorized at the Thai Foreign Ministry before posting to your home address- There is no need for you to return to Bangkok for this as we can handle all the paperwork requirements.
Note that you pay your own embassy fees on your visit and these vary between embassies. The amphur official will be up to you to organise in Phuket OR you can do the official registration in Bangkok at no additional cost if you prefer.
Australian Couples ONLY
I can arrange legal registration for you in Australia at a discounted rate through my contacts there who cover all major cities in all states.
